The Winter makes her broken the coldest months she spoke
in nothing but dirty words
I've seen the Spring do such amazing things
to her off demeanor, and I was pleased to meet her
She's so kind through June and July,
in the sun she sings of beautiful things
In the middle of September she feels the weather
coat her skin and she settles in
as Autumn ends I do my very best
to tell her winter isn't all for sinners
and you've done amazing things, all through November
but please remember your altruism when Winter comes
She takes her clothes off and examines the scars
left by knives and by speeding cars
she's clothed in guilt for escaping from harm
she leaves reminders of lives on her arm
As the sun kisses her skin her scars begin to fade
and she measures her life by the things she gives away
She knows she can't atone for the lives she took that day
But she strives towards it
She would die for it
She lives with such regret
But when Spring comes she does the very best that she can
When the mercury drops and she can see her breathe
seems her good deeds aren't enough to fulfill her debts
As she's scraping the frost off of her windshield again
Her hands remember and the tremble removing the rest
Her blankets bundle her up and it warms her chest
The heat's not deep enough, her heart is as good as dead
The Winter freezes her thoughts in hopelessness she says
"This is it for life, this could be as good as it gets"
But please know that this won't be as good as it gets
Soon The Spring will clean this mess
